Sustainability is important to us
We work every day to further improve our sustainability performance. This is not just about sustainability in the ecological sense, but also about economic and social sustainability. We are part of the Swisstainable sustainability program and are classified as Level I-committed. The Swisstainable sustainability programme brings together businesses and organizations across the entire Swiss tourism sector. By participating in the program, we commit ourselves to continuous sustainable corporate development, pursue measures in the area of sustainability and thus make a concrete contribution to sustainable Swiss tourism. Propstei Wislikofen offers VEGAN meals at no extra charge:
Whether a vegan breakfast, vegan lunch or vegan dinner including dessert
We also launched a pilot project in the fall to promote vegan food in general and to consume less meat in order to reduce our carbon footprint. During this pilot phase, we are deliberately offering our seminar guests with half board a choice of a vegetarian main course or a vegan main course in the evening (previously meat and veggie were available). The reactions are increasingly positive, which makes us happy!
This is how we get involved
prOBSTtei has planted 10 standard trees to preserve the old varieties
In doing so, we are reviving an old monastic tradition and are committed to preserving old monastic regional fruit varieties such as the “flamed cardinal”, the “sweet Pfaffenapfel”, the “Brugger Reinette”, the “Pastorenbirne” and the “Vogelrüti Quitte”. At the same time, the standard fruit trees also make an important contribution to the promotion of biodiversity. This is because the standard trees, of which there were 15 million in Switzerland in the 1950s – today there are still 2.2 million – provide important habitats for birds, insects and other animals. In addition, the standard trees absorb CO2 and release oxygen. In this way, they help to ensure that the soil in the immediate vicinity dries out less. And, of course, the fruit of the fruit trees can also be used in our own kitchen for fresh apple sauce, delicious pear tarts or dried apple rings, which can then be bought in our Propstei store.
